Tropic-EWE-L Smalls Finishing Instructions
Thank you for purchasing Tropic-EWE-L Smalls! Finishing the charts into a pincushion and scissor fob is a simple process.
The first thing you will need to do is to stitch a second set of backstitch squares from your fabric.
I like to space them close to my stitched motifs for the most economical use of fabric.
Next you will need to cut out all of your squares. I like to keep an edge of 4 threads around my backstitching since the fabric will be turned to the inside as you assemble the two pillows.
Make a loop of the yarn in a length you're comfortable with for your scissor fob and knot it. I used about 9" for the model. Use the remainder of your yarn to make a tassel. Simple instructions can be found here. I used two finger widths to make my tassel rather than the 4 in the video.
You will be using the backstitched edges to assemble your pieces. This is very similar to assembling a biscornu. Make sure you join each stitch separately. Tuck in the tassel and loop on opposite ends of the scissor fob as you stitch and run an additional stitch through each of them to secure.
Before you join the last side of your pincushion and scissor fob go ahead and stuff them to the firmness you desire using either polyfill, wool, or cotton.
